WBC team
Once again, the 2009 World baseball Classic will feature the same 16 teams. The 16 teams are divided into four pools, A-D, with four teams each. it is similar in theme, if not scale, for the qualifying for the World Cup. Two teams form each pool move on to the WBC’s second round. Which is split into two pools. The first round on the WBC takes place from March 5 -12. The second round of the World Baseball Classic is set for March 14-19, while the WBC Final Round goes down on March 21-23, at the LA Dodgers Dodger Stadium.
The WBC Pools are as follow:
Pool A-Tokyo Dome has the following WBC teams
- China
- Chinese Taipei (AKA Taiwan)
- Japan
- South Korea
Pool B- Mexico City’s Foro Sol has the following WBC teams
- Australia
- Cuba
- Mexico
- South Africa
Pool C- Toronto’s Rogers Centre has the following WBC teams
- Canada
- Italy
- United States
- Venezuela
Pool D- San Juan’s Eastadio Hiram Bithorn has the following WBC teams
- Dominican Republic
- Netherlands
- Panama
- Puerto Rico
After the first round is done, Round 2 takes place in San Diego’s PETCO Park and Miami’s Dolphin Stadium
Pool 1 will see the top teams in the four pools move on to Round 2. Teams from Pool A and B will play in San Diego, and Pool C and D will meet in Miami. There will be another round of double elimination, with the top two World baseball Classic teams once again moving up.
In the Final Round, the runner up in one pool will play the winner in another, and vice versa, and the two winning teams move on to the WBC Finals.
